Thanksgiving Preparation

This year we started Thanksgiving prep the day before with pie making and lots of cleaning and rearranging...we purchased an 18lb turkey to feed us and a few friends.

We answered a surprising doorbell ring to find a beautiful flower arrangement from G & G...the boys enjoyed the balloons the most...

Daddy is always in charge of the bird and this year he decided to smoke it...but first the night before you must brine the turkey. The boys really enjoyed watching...

Wishing the turkey a good night's rest in the brine...

Henry really was the biggest helper...constantly asking "what's next?" after finishing a job. Helping Gma snap beans in half for homemade green bean casserole...

Helping Daddy make his smoke bombs...aka filling foil with spices...

This year we are very thankful for many things: our two handsome and intelligent boys, our family and friends, our health and safety, the roof over our heads and the opportunities the future will bring. We are truly blessed.

The Great Feather Hunt

I found a cute activity online and decided the boys might have fun doing it...and they did. We have been trying to be crafty lately in the spirit of the holidays but have run out of turkey day ideas that aren't same old same old...

Anyway, the activity started with Momma hiding feathers outside...Henry tried to spy but was successfully distracted for a few minutes.

Henry understood the directions and took off running when he saw a feather...


Charlie, with the help of big brother, found a few and was satisfied...


We had to encourage his hunt to continue..

Buddies

Although Henry only seems to see Jack once or twice a year, they are instant friends when they see each other. I made the mistake of telling Henry we were having a play date that afternoon, Henry counted down the minutes...

We spent most of our time at the playground...

Mother Of The Year

As much as I honestly didn't want to play frisbee yesterday with Henry, I didn't mean for it to end so early. We threw it back and forth maybe three times before I threw it directly into Henry's face. It dropped, he paused, then burst out crying...I thought it hit him in the nose and we went inside to check it out, on the way in I noticed he was bleeding just below the eye...I felt absolutely awful!!!

After icing for a couple of minutes, Henry was upset that we weren't going back outside right away...I told him I wasn't going to play frisbee again, which is of course what he wanted to do...

Taken shortly after getting hurt but just before heading back outside to play with Momma (at least he still wanted to play with me and yes he had me throwing the frisbee again, this time I only threw it at his feet...he however really started to throw the frisbee well...)

Breaks my heart...


Later in the evening...he is such a good sport...


We were hoping he wouldn't have a nice shiner...then it started to swell again a little...


So, this is what my baby looks like today...


He is still going at 110% energy so I guess he is a trooper!

An Afternoon With The Animals

Yesterday we were able to visit my Aunt and Uncle and see their animals. Henry was pretty excited about having a chance to ride a horse but I wasn't sure if he would actually get on...

To my surprise he took quite easily to my Uncle and went with him to get the horses from the pasture...

Then, Henry led Moose to the "arena" where he would be able to ride him.

Henry was so good with Moose...petting him...


Charlie watching big brother and waiting patiently for his turn...


Charlie's turn...he talked to Moose and pet him but declined when asked if he wanted to ride...maybe next time...


Henry got on Moose for about 10 seconds before wanting off...then after a short break, he decided to give it one more try...

Very excited now...and so proud!





Henry rode Moose just for a little bit then thanked him with an apple for a treat!





After riding, the excitement continued...

The boys were able to gather eggs from my Aunt's chickens...Henry was in charge of the basket and was pretty excited to find the eggs waiting for him. He was especially excited to find one of the eggs still warm...





After gathering the eggs, the boys got to feed the chickens.











We all enjoyed our visit and want to thank Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Kevan for giving us such a great opportunity!!
